Puscifer - Apocalyptical
Tool may have released its first album in thirteen years last year but it’s lead singer Maynard James Keenan hasn’t been slowing down since. Continuing with his supergroup project Puscifer, he has just released their first track in five years “Apocalypictal”
Apocalyptical, not just content with being an absolute anthem also has an iconic video to go with it. Reflective of the isolation and the lockdown effects the corona virus has had on city streets, the video features a skateboarder in a hazmat suit skating through abandoned streets interlaced with close-ups of the corona virus and singer-guitarist Carina Round in bright red lipstick.
The song itself is an interesting clash of vocals between Keenan and Round and the electronic build up of the track until the beat reaches it’s peak. The song has a groovy mid tempo with a dance like beat.
Keenan commented on the idea behind the track, stating in an accompanying press release:
“Manipulated information disseminated by kings, queens, dictators, so called leaders, supposed professionals or outliers and conspiracy theorists living underground, or in basements, is not new or unique to this generation. Misdirection is Power Struggles’ conjoined twin but the speed at which it now travels in this digital age is dangerous and destructive on many levels. This rapid distribution of poison and its immediate impact will be the hallmark of our generation. Even In light of all this, and all the noise the digital landscape generates, all I keep asking myself is ‘what is it with the whole hoarding toilet paper thing?’”
“Apocalyptical” is the first single of the bands upcoming album which will be released in late 2020 with a follow up world tour in 2021.
