By order of the Peaky Blinders! Every family has drama but none quite like the Shelbys. To celebrate this awesome series, we’ve put together a rundown of 15 razor-sharp Peaky Blinders tattoos.
Peaky Blinders is a British drama which follows the Shelbys, a notorious crime family from Small Heath, Birmingham. Based on a foundation of real life events, Peaky Blinders dives into big issues of the era; Birmingham’s gritty criminal underworld, the aftermath of World War 1, and the Wall Street Crash, to name a few.
The first season of Peaky Blinders was aired back 2013, and has been followed by another four in the years since. There are also talks of a sixth, and possible seventh, series being on the cards.
The series has an excellent cast including Cillian Murphy, Tom Hardy, Helen McCrory and many more, with the likes of Aiden Gillen, Adrien Brody and Paddy Considine also making appearances.
Tommy Shelby is the leader of the Shelby family and the brains of the operation. He’s the man with the plan, and often has a plan A through to Z, getting the Peaky Blinders out of countless sticky situations.
From his criminal background, Tommy uses his wits, notoriety and respect to form the basis of a political career later on in the series – an environment where his cunning and calculated nature comes in very handy.
Arthur is Tommy’s brother and right-hand man. He’s like an aggressive beast caged inside a human’s body, and somebody who you cross at your own peril.
While his aggression is obviously useful in a criminal environment, it’s clear that Arthur is dealing with some serious demons.
The Shelby Family
In addition to Tommy and Arthur, there are several other member of the Shelby family; John, Michael, Polly and Ada.
Although fictional, the Shelbys are based, in part, on a real life Birmingham gang, and many of the other gangsters they encounter throughout the series were, in fact, real people.
Razor Blade In The Hat
The Peaky Blinders, the criminal gang that the Shelbys run, get their name from their notorious choice of head-wear. They wear flat caps fitted with a razor blade in the peak. They are able to use the hats to slash enemies across the face with the blade – often blinding them; hence Peaky Blinders.
For this reason, razor blades are often synonymous with Peaky Blinders inspired tattoos.
